The outcome of the survey 'conducted by Nézőpont Institute for Magyar Nemzet shows that the supporters of opposition parties MSZP (Socialist Party), far-right Jobbik and green party LMP would be more willing to switch the current democratic regime in exchange for a higher standard of living, while those backing the ruling Fidesz party are less keen to see such a change.

The paper said 65% of Jobbik fans would be willing to pay with an autocratic government for robust economic growth and 57% of MSZP’s supporters would accept that price. Of LMP’s supporters 38% think that would be acceptable, while only one third of Fidesz voters would be willing to make that sacrifice.

The paper noted that irrespective of party affiliation those with the lowest education are most open to this kind of 'change of regime’: with 34% of those with basic qualification are leaning for such 'solution’, while only 23% of those with secondary education degree and 18% of those with higher education degree said sacrificing democracy for wellbeing is not too high a price to pay.

Of 100 respondents 29 answered 'definitely yes’, 16 'rather yes’, 11 'rather no’, 34 'definitely no’ and 10 could not or did not want to answer. Nézőpont Intézet polled 1,000 people over the phone in early October.
