Why Your Heart Prefers Vegetables To Meat

We’re all looking for ways to stay healthier longer. Nobody wants to be unhealthy but at the end of the day we’ve all got to live our lives. Being happy is a very important factor in living well and you could argue that all life is, is the endless pursuit of happiness. Food is a big part of life and as such, so is eating. We all have different likes and dislikes but a lot of joy can be taken from a nice meal and for a lot of people it’s one of the great pleasures of life. The famously healthy Mediterranean way of life revolves around wonderfully fresh meals, enjoyed and savoured. Obviously it’s not for everyone but then nothing is.

The best and most effective ways to maintain your health are through genuine ways of life which you yourself adopt. People who don’t eat meat tend to be skinnier than those who do because there’s less fat in vegetables. It’s not a diet; it’s a lifestyle which just happens to confer that affect onto its followers. It’s easier to do something when you don’t realise you’re doing it. Once you deliberately set out to achieve something it becomes a task which in turn can make it seem difficult where it doesn’t need to.

In a recent study by the University of Oxford in England, it was shown that a vegetarian diet is actually much better for your heart. This isn’t a massive shock as fat and meat can do a lot of damage to your most important of muscles if eaten in excess. What is surprising is just how much better off vegetarians seem to be in terms of heart disease. The study showed that those who didn’t eat meat had a 32% reduced risk of contracting heart disease or dying from it. Great news for veggies, less so for the omnivores amongst us!
