Help for Diabetics in the USA

Learning to live with type two diabetes can be a real struggle but when the reward is living a long and healthy life, the changes you’ll need to make are worth it. You’ll have to learn to eat better and exercise more often, you’ll need to know which foods to avoid and how your blood-sugar reacts to every little thing you do. It sounds like so much and to begin with it can be hugely overwhelming but given a little time and effort you’ll find yourself healthier than you’ve ever been before and doing all of the above without even thinking about it.

If you’re a type two diabetic living in the USA then you’ll probably have health insurance. Now, depending on where you live in the world will depend if you have it too. I’m from the UK where we have the NHS so this doesn’t apply to me but some American health insurance companies are putting on special programs to help to deal with diabetes. This is mainly because type two diabetes is so widespread now that the insurance companies spend billions on its treatment in the US every year. Regardless, if you’re the member of any of the following insurance companies then you’ll find some nice benefits to help you deal with your condition:

United Healthcare with YMCA

These two have started to work together to provide sources of education and coaching for those who’re trying to change the way they’re living their lives but finding it hard to go it alone. They’ll help you lose that stubborn weight and then they’ll teach you how to keep that weight away!

CIGNA

This company offers a Well Aware Program which is essentially a phone line which members can call. Nurses operate the line and will help members out with any issues they may have a provide reminders for health appointments and similar.

Blue Cross Blue Shield

Working across the USA to fight childhood obesity. They’ve got all sorts of activities and health programs open to kids and parents, working with both to help avoid obesity in young people from a young age!
